Permira, the global investment firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Adinah Shackleton as its first Head of ESG (environmental, social and governance).
Ms Shackleton brings more than 10 years of ESG consulting and industry experience and will be responsible for running and further developing Permira’s ESG activities. Ms Shackleton will be based in London.
Prior to joining Permira, Ms Shackleton was a Principal Consultant in ERM’s global transaction services team specialising in ESG for private equity clients. As well as developing policies and frameworks to embed ESG in investment processes, Ms Shackleton has worked with a wide range of portfolio companies identifying initiatives to address ESG risks and opportunities. Ms Shackleton also has extensive experience of environmental and social buy and sell side due diligence cross regions and sectors and has worked with a range of companies on sustainability reporting and assurance.
The appointment of Ms Shackleton as Head of ESG shows the funds’ strong commitment to investing responsibly and is part of Permira’s long-term strategy to help build stronger more sustainable businesses. Permira established a dedicated ESG team in 2010 to ensure that the sound management of ESG matters is taken into account in the funds’ investment and value creation processes. The team has been led by partner Jörg Rockenhäuser, Head of Germany and a member of Permira’s Executive Committee, and includes members of the investment team, as well as members of the investor relations and risk management teams. In 2012 Permira won the BVCA’s Responsible Investment Award in recognition of its commitment to all aspects of ESG engagement. Permira is also a signatory to the United Nations backed Principles for Responsible Investment.
